Description

Hawawshi is a delightful Egyptian street food (and home cooked!) favorite that combines savory ground meat filling with fluffy pita pockets. This recipe is sure to tantalize your taste buds with its unique blend of spices and the satisfying combination of textures.

  1. In a chopper, add the vegetables (onions-bell pepper-garlic) and the tail fat -can be replaced with ghee- and chop well.
  2. Add the ground meat and the spices and chop again.
  3. Cut a small opening in the bread from the side, add a little amount of the ground meat mixture.
  4. Flatten the mixture inside the bread evenly. Store each loaf separately in a plastic bag.
  5. Brush or spray oil on the two sides of the bread.
  6. Heat up the grill and place the bread over high heat, when it starts to change color, turn down the heat so the meat can cook well without burning the bread.
  7. Serve with tahini sauce and french fries.
