Pour whipping cream into a mixing bowl.

Begin whipping the cream with a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-high speed for about 8 to 10 minutes.

As you mix, the cream will begin to separate into butter and buttermilk (the liquid).

Once the butter separates, pour out the buttermilk (save it for other uses like marinades).

Transfer the butter to a bowl of ice water and knead it to remove excess buttermilk.

Continue to rinse and knead the butter in the water until it becomes firm and smooth.

Shape the butter into a block or mold.

Store the butter in the freezer for better preservation.
