In a saucepan, add milk and sugar.

Heat the mixture over low to medium heat. Stir constantly at first to make sure the sugar completely dissolves.

Allow the milk to simmer gently. Stir every five minutes to prevent a film from forming on top or the bottom from burning.

Continue to cook for at least 45 minutes. You will notice the milk level gradually decreasing as the liquid evaporates.

Turn off the heat once the mixture has a light beige color and a thick, syrupy consistency. It will thicken even more as it cools.
