For Coating Mix 1 (Dry)
For Coating Mix 2 (Wet Batter)
For Coating Mix 3 (Crispy Outer Layer)
Instructions
-
Peel the large onions and slice them into thick rings.
-
Separate the onion rings from each other. Select only the larger rings to work with.
-
Gently scratch the inside of the onion rings and remove the thin, transparent inner membrane. This helps the coating adhere better.
-
For stuffed onion rings: Take three large rings. Insert a slightly smaller ring inside each of the three large ones, ensuring the same thickness between the two rings.
-
Cut cheese slices into strips and insert them between the two onion rings. Set aside the prepared onion rings.
-
Plate 1 (Crispy Outer Layer): In a shallow dish, combine coarse breadcrumbs (or panko) and Knorr Vegetar packet. Mix well.
-
Plate 2 (Wet Batter): In a separate bowl, add flour, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Mix these dry ingredients well. Then, add egg and milk. Whisk everything together thoroughly until you get a smooth, consistent batter.
-
Plate 3 (Initial Flour Dusting): In a third shallow dish, add flour.
-
Take each onion ring (stuffed or plain) and dust it thoroughly with flour from Plate 3. Shake off any excess flour.
-
Next, dip the floured onion ring into the wet batter from Plate 2, ensuring it's fully coated. Let excess batter drip off.
-
Finally, transfer it to the crispy breadcrumb mix from Plate 1. Press the breadcrumbs onto the onion ring firmly to ensure a good, even coating.
-
Dip the breaded onion ring back into the wet batter from Plate 2. Drain excess batter.
-
Immediately transfer it back to the crispy breadcrumb mix from Plate 1. Press firmly again, shaping it into a nice circular form. This double coating ensures extra crispiness.
-
Place the coated onion rings on a plate or tray and transfer them to the freezer for at least 30 minutes. This helps the coating set and prevents it from falling off during frying.
-
In a deep pot or fryer, heat frying oil to a medium temperature, approximately 180°C.
-
Carefully place the chilled onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
-
Fry for 3 to 4 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden-brown color and are crispy.
-
Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
-
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
