Instructions

Preparing the Meat Sauce

  1. In a pan, start cooking the meat till its fully cooked to a brown color.
  2. Remove the cooked meat from the pan, add the onion in its remaining fat (you can add oil if needed). Stir till it turns yellow in color and a little transparent.
  3. Now return the cooked meat back into the pan with the onion and stir for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the tomato paste, tomato juice, and enough water to cover the meat.
  5. Add the salt, black pepper, thyme, basil, paprika & stock. Mix well.
  6. Cover the pan, and let it simmer on low heat for 15 minutes till you get a vibrant red colored sauce.

Preparing the Bechamel Sauce

  1. In a hot pan, add butter and let it melt, then add the flour and mix till the flour dissolves in the butter.
  2. Next, add the milk gradually, till it combines with the butter and the flour. Lastly, to adjust the thickness of the sauce and make it thinner add water.
  3. Add the salt, black pepper & the stock. Stir till you reach the desired consistency ( a bit thinner than regular bechamel)

Preparing the Cheese mix

  1. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, parmesan cheese (optional), thyme & basil.
  2. To make the cheese creamier, add the milk and mix well till you reach the desired consistency.
  3. Note: the bechamel sauce and the meat sauce is a bit thinner than usual, because the juiceness is required to cook the lasagna sheets.

Preparing the Lasagna

  1. In a baking dish, add Olive oil, some bechamel & meat sauce.
  2. Add a layer of the lasagna sheets (raw).
  3. Spread half the amount of the cheese mix, then 1/3 of the quantity meat sauce & finally a layer of mozzarella cheese.
  4. Now repeat the previous layer again. For the final top layer, add the lasagna sheets, the rest of the meat sauce, and the bechamel sauce.
  5. Add some mozzarella on top. Grate some red cheddar on top to enhance the taste.
  6. Now cover the baking dish with parchment paper then with aluminum foil.
  7. Place it in a preheated oven on 180 degrees for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil & parchment paper, turn on the broiler & leave it till the top gets brown.
  9. Let it cool for 15 minutes before cutting. Sprinkle some thyme on top and enjoy!
  10. Note: you can use the lasagna sheets raw, or if you are worried that it won't get cooked well, then you can preboil it to be aldente.
