In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm milk, sugar, instant yeast, and egg. Whisk gently.

Add flour and salt.

Mix or knead on low speed for approximately 3 to 4 minutes until a cohesive dough forms.

Add room-temperature butter to the dough. Continue kneading for exactly 10 minutes.

As you approach the 10-minute mark, increase the mixer speed to high until the dough starts to gather in the center of the bowl and pulls away from the sides. This indicates proper gluten development.

Lightly grease a clean bowl with a very small amount of oil.

Place the dough in the greased bowl, turning once to coat.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel.

Let the dough rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Its size should approximately double.

After 30 minutes, gently punch down the dough to release the air.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into smaller, equal-sized pieces.

Weigh each piece (if desired for uniformity) and shape it into a small, smooth ball.

Lightly grease your baking tray with a very small amount of butter.

Arrange the shaped dough balls on the prepared tray, leaving some space between each one to allow for expansion.

Cover the tray and let the buns rise for a second time for 15 minutes in a warm place.

Preheat your oven to 190°C with both top and bottom heat.

Bake the buns for exactly 10 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown on top. Do not overbake.

As soon as the buns come out of the oven, melt butter in the microwave. Brush the tops of the hot buns with the melted butter for shine and softness.

Once cooled, slice the buns open with a knife (you can hollow out some of the inside if desired).
