  1. In a mixing bowl, combine semolina flour, white flour, shredded coconut, and baking powder. Mix well and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, caramelize the sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns light golden brown in colour.
  3. Once caramelized, add ghee and milk to the caramel. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Brush a baking pan with ghee.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients.
  7. Mix everything together very well until a smooth batter forms.
  8. Pour the batter into the greased baking pan and spread it out evenly.
  9. Bake the Basbousa in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  10. Once the Basbousa is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot Basbousa.
  11. Allow the Basbousa to absorb the syrup and cool completely in the pan.

Syrup

  1. Boil for 12 minutes continuously over medium heat after boiling for a minute.
  2. You can add a small spoonful of glucose honey.
