  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the milk and set aside a portion.
  2. Add cream and let it simmer lightly without boiling.
  3. Incorporate cold milk with custard powder and vanilla.
  4. Mix with powdered sugar until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the custard mixture until it thickens.
  6. In a bowl, combine powdered sugar and cinnamon, and mix well.
  7. Butter a baking dish and layer the filo pastry sheets, brushing each layer with butter.
  8. Between each layer, add another layer of butter and continue with the filo pastry.
  9. Pour custard into the center, spreading evenly with a spoon.
  10. Sprinkle randomly with cinnamon and sugar.
  11. Bake the mefarkesha at 160°C for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Remove from oven and dust with powdered sugar, pistachios or almonds, and muhamadi roses if desired.
